Stanley Stella Sustainable & Ethical Apparel
Custom branded clothing has long been seen as a great way to put your message out into the world and get your brand noticed. In the last few years this sector has been quietly evolving with many clothing manufacturers looking for innovative ways to make their production methods more sustainable. We do our best to bring you the best of these new lines of environmentally-friendly clothing, and so with that in mind, in this article we’d like to spotlight STANLEY/STELLA, one of our suppliers that demonstrates what can be achieved by focusing on sustainability and ethical production.
Who are STANLEY/STELLA?
They're an innovative apparel company that specialises in casual and athletic clothing with a relaxed and contemporary style. Since their launch in 2012 they’ve set out to create high quality garments in the most responsible and ethical way. It’s these principles that guide everything they do, from who they choose to partner with, to what materials they use...
Earth-friendly and recycled materials
STANLEY/STELLA work closely with their own suppliers to source only the best raw materials, grown or produced in ways that do not harm people, animals or the environment. They exclusively use GOTS-certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) organic cotton from India, recycled polyester from China and other sustainable materials such as Modal®.
Their supply chains are certified by various independent bodies and standards. Each of these certifications demonstrates that they are working towards building healthy environmental practices, with greater respect for the planet at every step of the way.
Stanley/Stella Organic Cotton
All of the cotton used by STANLEY/STELLA is organic. The organic cultivation of cotton avoids all use of pesticides and is better for the environment, protecting the well-being of farmers and their communities.
They have a Natural Raw cotton collection that’s completely free from dyes. They’ve further adjusted the production process to minimise its environmental impact, with substantial savings in water, energy and chemicals required.
Stanley/Stella Recycled Cotton
They use recycled organic cotton taken from their own cutting waste and mix it with undyed virgin organic cotton to make new yarn. The result creates a natural heather effect, with the raw cotton blended with either white, black or blue cotton waste. By eliminating the dyeing process, they drastically reduce the amount of water and chemicals required.
Stanley/Stella Recyled Polyester
All the polyester used by STANLEY/STELLA is recycled. It’s made from PET plastic bottles that would otherwise go into landfill, saving a considerable amount of energy and water. It is itself recyclable allowing for the potential of a true circular economy.
Stanley/Stella Ethical Production
STANLEY/STELLA centre their approach to business on corporate social responsibility. After an extensive social audit, they’ve been given ‘Leader’ status by the Fair Wear Foundation for their efforts in ensuring the safety of their workers
They’re fully transparent about their own suppliers. They have partner factories in Bangladesh and China, with whom they've created supportive, long-term and collaborative relationships. They have a number of mechanisms in place to ensure decent working conditions, including daily visits to these factories.
They also constantly monitor their own supply chain to better understand its environmental impact and look for new ways of minimizing it. All their partner factories are equipped with state-of-the art Effluent Treatment Plants to remove toxic elements from the water and ensure it’s safe to be reused.
The company doesn’t rest on its laurels either, they're always working on new ways to have a positive impact on people and the planet.
